BUKINDO “CHIEF’S PALACE”:

Visit Bukindo village and explore the drums found at the “Chief’s Palace”. There is a house built by the engineer Tanel from Italy who was employed by the Chief to build it in 1922-1923. Explore the drums which have been used as the means of communications. They are mor than 100 years old!

KITARE VILLAGE:

I s a village where chiefs are burried. Explore where the first chief who became a christian (MICHAEL LUKUMBUZYA) was burried. He died in Canada. Let you know how he went to Canada while he was a ruler of the Kerewe people.

HALWEGO VILLEGE:

Visit Olwego Handebezyo Museum. This is a “View Point” where you can overview Ukerewe Island. There is a carve that was used to hide during ethinic wars. Also the place has been used for storing surplus and a picnic point. Watch people working in different places when you are at this point. Watch birds and other wild animals as well.

RUBYA BEACH FORREST:

This is a game reserved area in Ukerewe Island. In Rubya you are advised to swim in Lake Victoria. There is a very beautiful beach with white sand to enjoy the nature. Visit people’s activities where lumbering, agriculture and fishing are taking place. Camping is allowed and facilitated. There is also a rest house.

IRONDO POINT & IRONDO BEACH:

Swim and fish in Lake Victoria, sun bath, sunrise and sunset. There is also a camping site owned by TUMAINI TOURS. Welcome and aat fresh Tilapia fish. There is a coconut plantation which is a gift to the village by the second president of Tanzania, Ally Hassan Mwinyi. Meet the traditional dances at night in Buzegwe village where IRONDO POINT is found. When in Irondo conduct sailing with us. There is a “View Point” where you can see Kweru Island and Ukara Island.

HAMUYEBE VILLAGE AT THE GERMANS MISSIONARIES FIRST SEETTLEMENT:

Here is the place where the missionaries arrived and started their settlement. Learn the problems that faced them in establishing christianity. 27 missionaries were killed due to the order of the Chief Lukonge. Discover the remaining fence of the “BOMA” where they lived. There is a cross planted by the Ukerewe Roman Catholic Church to mark 100 years of christians in Ukerewe Island. This was done in 1995. There are many historical villages like Namagondo Village where the engineer Tanel lived and built a primary school that is still working serving the community.

KAGUNGULI CHURCH AGED MORE THAN 100 YEARS:

Is found in Kagunguli Village. In the church plot farm is found a cemetry of the author Anicet Kitereza who wrote the history of Ukerewe. His books are used in the University of Dar es Salaam nowadays. Meet people of Ukerewe who lived with him .

OTHER ISLANDS:

UKARA Island where you will explore the DANCING STONE. This is a stone that dances due to an influence of the commands. Beautiful and pleasing songs lead to the dancing af this world wide wondering stone. The origin of this stone is a legend where two brothers had a conflict – one ran and met a curve, he jumped onto the stones and entered in the carve and did not come out again. The next ran back to the village and informed the family members about their conflict and the lost of his brother that he left his foot prints on the stone. When the family members and their friends went to witness they found the prints so they advised him to sing pleasing and beautiful songs where by the response was the dancing of the stone.

THE NIFE OF TRUTH :

Is used for finding the truth of who has commited a crime in the family, clane, village, even in the worring places. The members come and slide on it with their bottom while on their underwears only if one has comitted a crime is going to be cutten off. And if he has not comitted will not be cutten.
